The "Willows on Worcester" is an interactive sculpture near Latimer Square as part of the Fletcher Living and Gap Filler Placemaking at One Central Programme. Designed by 2nd Architectural Studies students at Ara the project aims to create a shared memory of Christchurch's CBD before the earthquakes. The sculptures design takes inspiration from the lutea tree in the Botanic Gardens.
Designed for all ages the project was designed and built mostly by volunteers creating new social connections and encouraging community use. You are invited to come and play, picnic, take shelter from the weather, take opportunity to interact with nature or simply rest. It's form encourages a flow of movement that allows people to use them as they want and kids love to run through the different spaces.
There are other Gap Filler installations as part of the PaOC programme close by so take opportunity to explore and mix this in with other fun activities.
