The Mad Hatterpillar, Nature in Wonderland

Dr Simon Pollard delves into the world of weird and wonderful bugs in this family-friendly talk.

Simon will entertain and educate as he tells us all about the Mad Hatterpillar, or Uraba lugens, an Australian caterpillar that has made itself at home here in Aotearoa New Zealand. As she sheds her skin, she collects her old heads and wears them as hats! Simon will tell us why, and share many more interesting facts and photos about other bugs, such as Fred the Thread (the thinnest caterpillar in the world) that the young and young at heart will love.

Dr Simon Pollard, Adjunct Professor of Science Communication at University of Canterbury, is a spider biologist and award winning writer and photographer.
