Kidsfest under the Stars

Explore the universe at Canterbury Astronomical Society's observatory near West Melton. Members of the society will be on hand to help unlock the secrets of the night sky through the wide range of telescopes at the observatory.

The Canterbury Astronomical Society observatory has 3 fixed telescopes (12", 14" and a 16") and an assortment of portable telescopes, which will be open during our public open night programme.

Your night sky tours starts with a welcome talk starting at 7:30pm, followed by a guided sky tour and telescope viewing until 9:00pm. Gate opens 7.20pm - no early admission sorry.

Cancellations are posted on the website at 630pm Bookings can be refunded or re-booked in the event of a cancellation. please dress warmly with good shoes and a hat. Beware of ice on the road and slippery grass. Please no flashing shoes and check our website for more information.
